You work from home. Many do. It’s become an increasingly popular method to make money, whether you write or run your own business. But are you always at home? You’re probably not, and in order to maximize your productivity when you’re outside the workspace, it may feel like you need to be in two or three places at once. Luckily, your phone or tablet can be in two or three places at once, and if you’re smart, you can take advantage of it.
Use these apps, and follow these tips and tricks, and you’ll be able work and write anywhere.
1. Dropbox
Dropbox is perfect for anyone on the go, especially those that need to access files that are normally exclusive to your home computer or laptop. The app allows you to save files from your desktop or laptop and access them from anywhere – even on your phone or tablet device.
Imagine you’re at Starbucks waiting for your venti nonfat latte and you are made aware that a client needs a file right away – just open up your Dropbox and grab the file you need. If it’s a new file you’re working on, just save it in the system and you’ll be able to access it when you get home.
2. Analytics programs
Tracking your website, blog or business numbers using analytics programs (such as Google Analytics) isn’t just for high-powered notebooks anymore. You can stay on top of which content is booming, view information on website visitors, and see where you’re visitors are coming from with ease using apps like gAnalytics for Android or Analytics Agent for iPhone.
3. WordPress
If you’re going to keep track of numbers for your blog or website, you might as well be able to act on that information when the timing is right. The WordPress mobile app allows you to create new content, update pages on your site, as well as moderate comments on the fly.
4. Evernote
Evernote wants you to “Remember Everything”. This app is a comprehensive way to save all your ideas, photos, voice and text notes in one place. Need to easily find these notes? The app’s search function is user friendly, allowing you constant access to all those important things you’ll need to move forward.
5. Docs to Go
Docs to Go is an app that allows you to create, view and edit Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents straight from your mobile devices. You never know when a piece you’re working on will need an edit, or when that spreadsheet will need a once-over. With these documents at your fingertips at all times, you’ve got the tools to stay on top of every facet of your writing or business.
*NOTE: There are also rumors that Microsoft will launch Microsoft Office mobile for Android and iOS in November 2012. * * *
